First MiGA Poker Night's a Winner
"Poker may be a branch of psychological warfare, an art form or indeed a way of life --but it is also merely a game, in which money is simply the means of keeping score." -
Anthony Holden, Big Deal .
On January 26, 2008, Michelle Scott and Michelle Bracken hosted Mensa in Georgia's first
Poker Night. A total of nine people attended the event, with some participants coming
from as far away as Birmingham, AL to try their luck.
Billed as an “Intro to Texas Hold 'Em,” the evening began with the hosts walking
attendees through the rules and basic strategy of the game known as the “Cadillac
of Poker.” Once the rules were explained, a practice game kicked off. However, players
found that they were having so much fun with the laid-back structure of the practice rounds, that the “real” game never got started. In addition to poker, the night's attendees
talked, told jokes, ate and drank wine.
Decked out in shades and ball cap, Alan Martin
works hard to perfect his “poker face.”
Overall, everyone who attended enjoyed the evening and the company of fellow Mensans and guests. Several MiGA members have expressed interest in a repeat performance of Poker Night, which will quite likely happen in April. Keep an eye on the MOTS calendar for more information, or email michellebracken@hotmail.com if you'd like to be notified of any other poker activities that may be scheduled.
