Mensa Foundation


Mensa in Georgia is actively involved in the Mensa Education and Research Foundation, Inc. (Mensa Foundation) Scholarship program. Currently the following Mensa in Georgia members and friends are active volunteers for the program:

Local Scholarship Chair and National Scholarship: Mary Dwyer Wolfe, Ph.D.

Region 5 Scholarship Chair: Bertie Clarke

Mensa in Georgia Member, Gail McGrew, had donated funds to endow three additional Region 5 awards and one national award. The regional awards are:

1. In Honor of our Parents (Fruecht-McGrew) ($1000) For a student in Reading Education, English Education, Special Education, or Gifted Education.

2. McGrew-Fruecht Scholarship ($1000) For a student studying physics or chemistry or someone who has been out of formal education for a period of five or more years.

3. Walt and Mary McGrew Scholarship for Veterans ($600).

4. 4 PAWS AND A TAIL SCHOLARSHIP ($600) Restricted to graduate level studies or continuing education of an established Veterinarian.

Mensa member Bob Haley endowed a $600 scholarship to be awarded in Mensa in Georgia in memory of his brother and member of Mensa in Georgia, Jack Haley. All academic majors are eligible for this award. The best essay that does not win a national or regional award is the winner.

The Mensa Foundation awards a $600 to an applicant of the Mensa in Georgia area. Applicants are also considered for three $500 regional awards and several special national awards of $600 to $2500.

In Other Information:

The Mensa Foundation's Scholarship program awards more than $100,000 in scholarship aid each year. It takes about $20,000 to endow a perpetual scholarship of about $500 to $600.

Apply between September 15th and January 15th each year.
